Dean Richards, the director of rugby, stated that Newcastle Falcons lost to Harlequins as they showed a lot of “respect.” In the match Newcastle trailed by fifteen points at half-time on Saturday and, in spite of a late comeback, finally lost 46-25.
Richards told BBC that this was what might have been if they had not offered them the attempts in the first half. They showed them too much respect. Therefore, in the 2nd half they said that they are not ready to do this and they scored three tries.
It was a 6th back to back loss for the Falcons, who stay 4 points above bottom positioned London Irish with 3 matches left of the season. The fifty-two year old further went on to say that he believed that they looked quite sharp, but after that they lost Sean Robinson to the sin-bin and then started going after the game. They gave a few penalties away that they did not required to do and Harlequins converted those and began to pull away again.
Prop Rob Vickers said that this is those little errors that are just biting them a bit at the moment. This is about doing the right things over the next 2 weeks to ensure they give a performance they are proud of and the result would take care of itself.
Next time, the Kingston Park team will face London Irish at home on 17th April, Sunday, in a game that might be climacteric in the Premiership relegation fights.
